Our approved training programmes for captains, deck officers and deck ratings are job specific and allow students to build professionalism, earning potential and capability to progress quickly in their careers.

Our programmes cover unlimited certification as well as certification for yacht officers up to 3,000GT.

Deck courses

Choose from Merchant Navy (unlimited) or yacht (up to 3,000GT).

  • Entry level

Essential training for anyone wishing to pursue a career at sea as a ship’s deck, engineer or electro-technical officer.

  • Officer of the Watch (Unlimited)

Certification programmes to achieve an Officer of the Watch Unlimited CoC.

  • Chief Mate / Master (Unlimited)

Approved certification programmes for deck officers to reach chief mate / master certificates of competency.

  • Superyachts – Officer of the Watch (Yachts)

These approved courses will enable you to work as an officer in charge of a navigational watch on superyachts up to 3,000GT.

  • Superyachts – Master (Yachts)

These approved programmes provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to achieve your Master (Yachts) certificate of competency.

  • Dynamic Positioning

Courses approved by the Nautical Institute for deck officers to gain theory and practical knowledge of dynamic positioning.


Engineering and electro-technical courses

Choose from Merchant Navy (unlimited) or small vessel engineer (yachts, less than 3,000GT and less than 9,000kW).

  • Entry level

Essential training for anyone wishing to pursue a career at sea as a ship’s deck, engineer or electro-technical officer.

  • Engineer Officer of the Watch (Unlimited)

These certification programmes provide routes to engineer officer of the watch certification for experienced seafarers, or those who have previous engineering-related skills and experience.

  • Second/chief engineer (Unlimited)

Approved certification programmes for second/chief engineer unlimited certificate of competency.

  • Small Vessel Second Engineer (formerly Y4) – less than 200GT and less than 1,500kW

Certification programmes for those wishing to work as second engineer on yachts less than 200GT and less than 1,500kW.

  • Small vessel chief engineer (formerly Y3) – Less than 500GT and less than 3,000kW

Certification programmes for those wishing to work as chief engineer on yachts less than 500GT and less than 3,000kW.

  • Small vessel chief engineer (formerly Y2/Y1) – less than 3,000GT and less than 9,000kW

Certification programmes for those wishing to work as chief engineer on yachts less than 3,000GT and less than 9,000kW.

  • Engine room systems and simulation

Our engine room simulator provides an environment for officers to develop technical engineering skills, as well as leadership and management skills.
